What would you do in the name of justice? I think most of us would like to think we’d do whatever we could. But if your house, your job, your friends and your family were at stake, would you still be so willing?
This is the dilemma at the heart of Mark Gimenez’s compulsively readable debut. His hero, Scott Fenney, is a successful attorney who went into the law to change people’s lives. However, several promotions later at his big Dallas law firm and Fenney has possibly lost sight of this objective. Now’s he’s got a mortgage to pay on a $3.5 million mansion and a beautiful and demanding wife to maintain. So he’s less than pleased when he is asked by the State to defend – on a minimal-fee basis – a black, heroin-addicted prostitute accused of murdering the son of a rich senator.
The novel propels him through the American legal system and into its dark heart, where money can buy you anything – including justice…
The Colour Of Law is an absolute page-turner by Mark Gimenez.
